The Apprenticeship
We are currently seeking an apprentice to join our Systems team at A&O Shearman Belfast. The team form part of the wider HR Support Service Centre at A&O Shearman, providing a first-class service to the firm, offering high quality administration support services through a range of specialist teams including HR Advice, HR Systems & Reporting, Graduate Recruitment, Payroll & Reward, Training Events and Global Mobility.
The role will be offered on a fixed term contract basis for 3.5 years and will be an opportunity to earn while you learn, working as part of a very experienced HR team. In partnership with Ulster University, we are committed to investing in your development enabling you to gain a BSc in Leading on Customer Operations.
In addition to this you will learn how the business operates and gain a variety of skills by supporting the firm’s global people systems and handling requests for HR data and management information. The role will involve working with and supporting our international offices from day one. Working across core HR Systems processes will provide you with practical experience that will equip you to think differently and embrace an exciting future: one that’s filled with unique challenges and a broad range of opportunities.
Key Requirements
• Applicants must possess a minimum of 5 GCSEs of grade C or above, including English and Mathematics, and a minimum of 2 A Levels of grade C or above.
• A collaborative team player with good communication skills.
• Good time management and strong attention to detail.
• Previous experience is not required; however, preference will be given to those candidates who demonstrate administrative skills or experience.

It is one of the most visible and client-facing roles on the team, handling a varied and significant caseload. This position serves as the primary caseworker, working closely with business immigration analysts and senior team members across departments. You will be the main point of contact for specific countries on behalf of a client and will play a vital role in client relationships, acting as the “face” of the firm. A deep understanding of the client’s objectives and goals in each country is essential. This role works in partnership with Managers to cultivate strong client relationships and ensure best practices across the wider team. This is a one-year contract position. Responsibilities This position requires the delivery of high-level strategic compliance services to the firm’s corporate client base, in coordination with external co-counsel. You will be assigned responsibility for several countries within the Asia Pacific region, coordinating visa processes and developing tailored immigration advice for a variety of Fragomen clients. Throughout the visa processing lifecycle, you will maintain communication with key client contacts to ensure they are kept informed on the progress of all applications. You will also build and maintain strong relationships with relevant third-party vendors to ensure effective communication and the delivery of high-quality service, as expected by both Fragomen and the client. Additionally, you will monitor legal or procedural changes that may affect current or future applications and provide timely updates to clients as necessary. Qualifications & Experience University degree in Law, HR, Business, or a related field. At least 2–3 years of experience in the immigration field; regional experience is an advantage. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with excellent interpersonal abilities. Ability to think critically and make decisions under pressure. A collaborative team player who builds trust through professionalism and efficient communication. Capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously, setting priorities, and meeting deadlines consistently. Maintains a high level of confidentiality.
