Our business development, marketing and communications team is integral to the setting and achievement of the firm’s global business objectives, which includes supporting our partners and associates in their pursuit of becoming our clients’ trusted advisers, building and maintaining long-lasting, deep institutional client relationships, winning new clients, increasing the visibility of the firm globally, positioning the firm as the thought leader and most advanced law firm among the global elite law firms. The function works as one team across the globe with close collaboration between the central groups, such as communications, and the professionals working in local offices, practice groups, sectors and clients.
Role purpose
This role is focused on the delivery of marketing and business development activities supporting the elevation of A&O Shearman’s profile in the market. The role involves coordinating credential documents and brochures, assisting on awards and legal directories submissions, assisting with the planning and execution of events and campaigns, and driving content and client engagement through e-marketing tools and platforms. The role also involves managing relationships within the firm’s global expert and market network, overseeing key marketing reports to track activities and budget management activity.
This is a great opportunity for someone who is a proactive team player with strong communication skills, able to effectively interact with all levels of the organisation and possess an understanding that spans A&O Shearman’s core products and sector groups. The role will work closely with our Business Development (BD) managers, as well as the wider BD team and lawyers in supporting the marketing and development activities that raise the profile of A&O Shearman.

Role and responsibilities
Prepare, draft, and coordinate credential statements, RFP responses, marketing collateral, and assist with pitch presentations as needed.
Manage and proactively promote our global marketing information systems (including our Client Relationship Management tool, Dynamics).
Support and coordinate legal directory and awards submissions and league tables, including content compilation, drafting, and progress tracking.
Coordinate the efforts of the firm’s global experts and market network with our relationship law firms including providing referral contacts, tracking referrals and prepare briefings.
Take ownership for local BD team meeting schedule, and other admin tasks, including notetaking and coordinating actions following meeting.
Assist with the development and management of e-marketing campaigns such as client alerts, publications and invitations using our email marketing tool, Vuture.
Assist the Market Lead with marketing research and business intelligence reports.
Work with the Market Lead to coordinate and manage industry memberships.
Manage various internal marketing reports, including marketing BD activity report.
Coordinate the efforts of the firm’s global experts and market network with our relationship law firms including providing referral contacts, tracking referrals.
Provide external communications assistance: maintain and update firm website content, and support communications on relevant social media pages.
Work alongside BD and PAs on the planning and execution of events. This includes setting up contact lists, invitations, RSVP management, on-day set up and management.
Manage merchandise and stock levels.
Provide marketing support to our Advanced Delivery Centre team.
Work with our Alumni, Pro bono, and DE&I champions to provide support on campaigns and events.
Identify relevant networking and sponsorship opportunities for partners and associates and plan and support sponsorships.
Attend regular regional and global team conferences.
Work with the Market Lead to coordinate and manage industry memberships.
Coordinate photo shoots to ensure all staff have professional photographs.
Assist on the marketing elements for the summer clerk’s recruitment campaign.
Assist the Market Lead with BD related budgets and finance approvals.
Ensure periodically that the memberships and subscriptions intranet page is up to date.
Take opportunities to assist in firm-wide, local, departmental or practice area projects.
Key requirements
Graduate degree / university degree in business/related disciplines.
Relevant marketing/ business development experience at an equivalent level within a professional services organisation – minimum three years’ experience.
Project management skills, including the ability to prioritise, work under pressure and multi-task to tight timeframes.
Production of quality marketing and business development material, independently and collaboratively.
Enthusiasm to develop an in-depth understanding of the market – legal, business, client requirements, etc.
Strong interpersonal and influencing skills – with partners, key associates, and business development colleagues, clients and suppliers.
Ability to respond promptly to requests and be known for managing expectations.
High attention to detail as well as excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills.
Professional, creative, good humoured and enthusiastic approach to all work and interactions.
A team player and highly collaborative.
Demonstrates highly developed skills in Microsoft Office Suite, use and application of AI and marketing technology stacks (CRM, EDM, PowerBI).
