Department purpose
FinOps brings financial accountability to variable cloud spend by unifying Technology, Finance, and Business teams in managing cloud costs while maintaining performance.
Role context and purpose
As a FinOps Specialist, you’ll define, implement, and evolve the firm’s FinOps function aligned with the FinOps Foundation and well-architected frameworks. You’ll manage cloud service consumption, coordinate cost management initiatives, and ensure efficiency, transparency, and accountability. Your role includes embedding FinOps best practices in cloud governance forums and deployment by educating teams and promoting cost-awareness.
Role and Responsibilities
Assist in shaping the FinOps strategy and governance processes, ensuring minimal commercial risk and exposure.
Act as a reliable advisor for FinOps, enhancing cloud services and resource utilisation to maximise the value of the firm’s investment in cloud technologies.
Conduct regular audits on the cloud platform to ensure compliance with key FinOps processes, such as optimisation and tagging.
Leverage understanding of cloud contracting, commitments, and economics to collaborate with Procurement and In-House Legal teams for negotiating cloud contracts.
Perform ongoing cloud account administration to monitor usage, manage budgets, and ensure adherence to financial policies and best practices.
Identify opportunities to utilise reserved instances, savings plans, and other cost-saving mechanisms.
Verify cloud provider invoicing to ensure accurate billing and financial reporting.
Develop, prepare, and present financial reports, conducting data analysis to provide insights into cloud usage, costs, and performance for various stakeholders including Executives, Senior Management, Product Owners, and Cloud Engineers.
Collaborate with Finance and IT teams to establish cloud budgets and maintain accurate forecasts based on usage trends.
Optimise cloud costs by identifying reduction opportunities, improving usage efficiency, and negotiating contracts with cloud providers while maintaining operational performance.
Work closely with engineering and development teams to align infrastructure goals with the firm’s cloud cost objectives and approved budgets.
Develop and enforce FinOps policies and best practices, ensuring compliance with financial regulations and internal policies.
Who we are looking for:
Experience:
Extensive experience in a dedicated FinOps role.
Managed cloud cost consumption for Microsoft, AWS, or GCP.
Delivered FinOps projects and initiatives.
Well-versed in cloud cost management, optimisation, and billing, especially with Microsoft Azure.
Knowledgeable about cloud contracting, commitment, licensing models, and strategies.
Conducted detailed data analysis from various sources.
Prepared and presented financial reports to leadership highlighting trends, risks and opportunities relating to cloud spend.
Worked globally, appreciating multiple cultures.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Experienced with cloud cost management tools.
Standout candidates will possess a degree and hold FinOps Foundation Practitioner and/or FinOps Foundation Professional Certifications.
