COMMERCIAL DISPUTES – LEGAL DIRECTOR (8+ PQE)
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
• We are expanding and looking to recruit a Legal Director into our Commercial Disputes team, based in Leeds.
• We have nurtured an environment where ambitious and hard-working lawyers are supported to succeed enjoying high calibre work with like-minded, inspiring colleagues who care about each other and their clients.
THE GROUP AND TEAM
The Commercial Disputes Group has lawyers across all UK offices and internationally. In each of the markets in which we operate we are recognised by independent commentators as one of the leading disputes and investigation practices, with a strong reputation in all our offices for our commercial and innovative approach to resolving business disputes.
We have real expertise in key areas, including swift delivery of commercial solutions to complex and critical issues. We can strategically deploy a combination of formal proceedings and all aspects of alternative dispute resolution (including negotiation, mediation and adjudication). We recognise that an in-depth understanding of the transactions underpinning the disputes we deal with is essential to the sensible resolution of those disputes, so often work closely with our non-contentious colleagues.
Our in-depth knowledge and understanding of the way our clients operate gives us a significant advantage over our opponents, who are frequently the magic circle/major city firms.
WHAT TO EXPECT IN THIS ROLE
This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing disputes practice at a top 20 UK law firm amid the continuing expansion of the Disputes Group and wider firm, which can provide you with real prospects for growth and career progression as you take on market leading work at a pivotal stage in your career.
• You will advise on a wide range of commercial and corporate disputes and be flexible, agile and enthusiastic in growing and developing your knowledge and experience of such disputes within a supportive and stretching environment.
• You will manage complex cases, and under partner supervision, take responsibility for managing associate teams and meeting client and case deadlines.
• You will demonstrate your knowledge of key areas of the law and an aptitude to observe developments in law and regulation, to identify how such developments may impact our clients and to tailor our client advice and services accordingly.
• You will be expected to have a key role in business development with fostering and growing client relationships and developing new ones being an integral part of this role. You can expect to collaborate not only with colleagues in the direct team but also with colleagues across other contentious and non-contentious AG practice areas, as well as colleagues immersed in relevant sector groups.
• You will work as part of a team who have a strong reputation for nurturing talent; as a senior member of that team, you will become an integrated and supportive colleague who will be expected to generously share your time, knowledge and experience to help develop less experienced colleagues (and learn from them in turn).
• You will be expected to be client focused and thinking about how AI and other tools may be harnessed to improve your delivery of advice and overall service.
• Your continuous self-development is valued, and you will be encouraged to engage with formal training programmes (whether technical or skills based) and to draw on mentoring, coaching and leadership development programmes available to you.
YOUR AREAS OF KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE
You will:
• Have at least 8 years+ PQE experience in private practice within a similar role.
• Have the core skills, quality and versatility to work on a wide variety of commercial and corporate disputes.
• Be flexible and agile and have enthusiasm for growing and developing your knowledge and experience and undertaking intellectually challenging work.
• Have a keen eye for detail, be self-motivated, proactive and confident in building enduring relationships with clients that are based on trust and high-quality service delivery.
• Be inquisitive and want to understand our clients, their drivers and what matters to them, so that your advice has quality, imagination, and impact.
